M621 junctions 1 to 7

Closed 15 Oct 2017

Opened 4 Sep 2017

Results updated 22 Mar 2018

We developed solutions to increase the capacity of the M621 and improve journey time reliability along the route. We looked at a number of ways to improve the M621 and our six week public consultation closed on 15 October 2017.

The consultation allowed members of the public and stakeholders to view our three proposed options and to understand the reasons for the improvements and the benefits.

We have now published our Public Consultation Report which summarises the information we provided during this consultation, how we engaged with the public and the views that were raised.

We have used the findings of the Public Consultation Report and further assessment work to help us select a preferred option (known as our preferred route). The findings will also be used to help us refine our design. Our Preferred Route Announcement brochure below gives you the details.

Overview

In 2014, the government announced proposals to improve M621 junctions 1-7 as part of their Road Investment Strategy. The M621 is a vital link between Leeds city centre and the surrounding road network. It’s already very congested, especially at peak times and this congestion will only get worse with economic growth expected in the region. That’s why investment is needed to provide more reliable journeys for people using the route.

We are consulting on a proposal to improve the M621 between junctions 1 and 7 and we are holding a public consultation exercise on our proposals for six weeks, between 4 September and 15 October 2017 and there are lots of ways you can tell us what you think.

We’ve looked at lots of ways we could improve the M621 and assessed each of our options and we’d like to hear what you think about some of these proposals, share any views or local knowledge that you may have taking the following into consideration:

  • Whether or not they meet the scheme’s objectives
  • Value for money
  • Potential impact on the environment
  • How the local community could be affected

We have shortlisted three options which all meet the scheme’s objectives. You can views these options in the consultation brochure.
