About the M2 junction 5
The M2 is an important motorway linking Rochester to Faversham, and a key route to the Port of Dover. The M2 Junction 5/A249 Stockbury Roundabout is the main access point for people travelling northeast to Sittingbourne, the Isle of Sheppey and the Port of Sheerness and southwest to Maidstone and surrounding villages.
M2 Junction 5 Visualisation
The need for the scheme
The junction experiences high levels of congestion on the A249 southbound (towards Maidstone), northbound (towards Sittingbourne) and the approaches to the junction and on the exit slip road from the M2 westbound (towards Stockbury Roundabout).
The congestion is expected to get worse in the future due to development and population growth.
This is your opportunity to discuss and help shape our proposals at an early stage. Your feedback together with ongoing technical analysis will help inform which option is the most suitable to take forward and a preferred route for the scheme.
